Ex-Goa CM for action against policeman who insulted Gandhiji
Panaji, Jan 19 (PTI) Former Goa Chief Minister Wilfredde Souza today demanded action against a Police Sub-Inspectorfor referring to "bribe" as "Mahatma Gandhi" in a stingoperation conducted on him.
Sub-Inspector Sunil Guddler was caught on spy-camselling drugs to two foreign girls in the sting operation inwhich he is seen showing currency notes and calling themMahatma Gandhi.
"No action has been taken against him although he isshown selling drugs and calling bribe as Mahatma Gandhi," theformer NCP Goa unit chief told reporters.
"On January 30, all state leaders will pay homage tothe Mahatma on his death anniversary, but they don''t havecourage to act against the officer who insults the Father ofthe Nation."
Shameful acts like policemen selling drugs andcustodial deaths are taking place in the tourist state. Inview of these incidents, the Digambar Kamat-led Governmentshould resign and a new government replace it, he said.
De Souza, currently Deputy Chairman of State PlanningBoard, also said he may quit the post. "I may quit (as DeputyChairman of the Board) as a mark of protest (over theGovernment''s functioning."
He said the state Government should refer RegionalPlan 2021 to village panchayats.
The Government has announced surface utilisation plans(regional plans) for every taluka. The move has been objectedto by a few NGOs.
There should be public participation while decidingabout the state''s development, the former CM said.
