Delhi govt warns pvt schools of strong punitive action

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) Delhi government today warnedprivate schools of strong punitive action against flouting itsdirective of reserving 25 per cent of total nursery seats foreconomically weaker section as per the Right to Education Act.

"We will take very strong punitive action againstthose schools which do not provide 25 per cent of their totalseats to children from economically weaker section,"Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.

His warning came following reports that some privateschools have refused to abide by the government directive inreserving the seats claiming that the provision of RTE cannotbe enforced on them.

The RTE law making education a fundamental right ofevery child in the age group of six to 14 years had come intoforce on April one. It makes it obligatory on the part of thestate governments and local bodies to ensure that everychild gets education in a school in the neighbourhood.
