Jakarta, Jan 19 (Antara) ASEAN tourism ministers haveagreed to adopt an ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP)2011-2015 to serve as reference for national tourismorganisations in carrying out tourism programs in theSoutheast Asian region.
The use of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan is a followup to a roadmap for integration of tourism sector which endedin 2010, according to the results of the ASEAN Tourism Forum(ATF) which is taking place in Phnom Penh from Monday toFriday.The draft of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan was earlierdiscussed and finalised by the ASEAN tourism special workinggroup in Solo, Central Java, in August last year.
The ASEAN tourism forum was preceded by the 33rd meetingof ASEAN national tourism organisations in Phnom Penh on Jan14.
The meeting among others elected chief of working groupin the new organizational structure according to the ASEANTourism Strategic Plan 2011-2015.
Thailand has been appointed to lead the working group formarketing and communication with Vietnam as deputy chairman.
The working group for product development is led by Malaysiawith Myanmar as deputy chairman.
The Philippines was appointed to chair the working groupfor tourism quality with Singapore as deputy chairman. BruneiDarussalam was elected to lead the working group forintegration and budget committee with Cambodia as deputychairman.
Meanwhile, Indonesia was appointed chairman of the ASEANTourism Professional Monitoring Committee with Laos as deputychairman.
At the Phnom Penh meeting, Indonesian Tourism and CultureMinister Jero Wacik once again came up with the idea ofencouraging tourist arrivals among ASEAN member states.
