No hotel room booked in Jamshedpur for National Games

Jamshedpur, Jan 19 (PTI) With barely three weeks leftfor the 34th National Games to begin, not a single hotel roomhas been booked by the National Games Organising Committee(NGOC) in the steel city here.

Jamshedpur, which is one of the venue for the games, willhost Archery, Boxing, Equestrian, Women''s Football andWeightlifting from February 12 to 26, Capt Amitabh, Head ofSports, Tata Steel and also the Convenor of NGOC here said.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Vijay KumarSinha, who is head of the Accommodation Sub-Committee of NGOCsaid, "We have informed the hoteliers about our requirementsas well as the dates. Besides hotels, we have madearrangements in college hostels, guest houses and the J R DTata sports complex."

President of the Jamshedpur Hotelier''s Association(JHA) Prabhakar Singh, however, said, "We had one meeting onJanuary five with the NGOC, but no follow up action wastaken."

Singh said that as per norms, the NGOC should have bookedrooms at least 60 days before the start of the games.

"We are ready to reserve 50 per cent rooms for the games,but the NGOC must pay 50 per cent advance to maintain day today establishment and other expenses," he said.

There was no representation from the JHA in theaccommodation sub-committee, which was formed recentlyalongwith other sub-committees by the NGOC.

The 34th National Games, which was to be held in 2007,were postponed six times.
