Sharapova grunts through to Round 3

By Biswajeet Panda
Melbourne, Jan 19: Maria Sharapova is screaming her way through the Australian Open 2011. Surpirsed! Don't be. She is back to her growling best(and seems on course for tennis too) after beating Virginie Razzano 7-6 6-3 in the second round of Australian Open 2011.

Sharapova, who won the Australian Open title in 2008, started off badly. At one point in the first set she was trailing 0-3 to the World No.100 Virginie Razzano. But then she recovered quickly to hold serve and break back before eventuallt taking the set in the tie-breaker.

Though Razzano, put up a fight in the second set, but it seems that she was too intimidated with the trademark grunts of Sharapova. The Russian lass, known for her glamorous image, is famous for high-decibel growlings in the tennis court. It is as if she tries to assert her authority over the opponent.

Shaapova who last won a grand slam title in 2008 beating Ana Ivanovic in the Australian Open, is set to meet Germany's Julia Goerges in the the third round.

Although her game in the match oscillated between awesome to erratic, her style quotient didn't. Dressed in a grey frock with a splash of orange across her frontage, she managed to grab eyeballs, but chances are that she might have even managed to damage some auditory senses. No complains though, as long as she wins matches.
