Mumbai, Jan 18 (PTI) The house of Mahindras have launcheda programme to find talented young footballers with theunveiling of the six-city Mahindra Youth Football Challenge(MYFC) whose Mumbai leg is commencing on January 20 with 32schools teams in the fray.
The winners of the tournament would earn the right tofight for the inter-city title with the champions of a similarinter-schools under 14 tournament held in Bangalore, Kolkata,Goa, Delhi and Kerala, it was announced today.
The inter-city tournament would be held in Bangalore inApril with coaches of Scottish club Celtics, with whomMahindras have a tie up, being present to train all the boysfor four days initially and then spot talent during thetournament.
"Twenty talented boys would be picked by Celtics coachesfor more intense training before 2 or 3 from that bunchselected for a further stint with Celtics in Scotland," said PN Sankaran of Procam International, which is organising theevent here with the Mumbai School Sports Association.
"We are sure the tournament will be very useful inpromoting the game of football, in developing young playersfor the future and ultimately leading to a positive andlasting connection between Celtic Football Club, Scotland andIndia," said Celtics Chief Executive Pter Lawell in a message.
All the matches would be played over two halves of 25minutes with a ten-minute break, Sankaran said.
