Udaipur, Jan 18 (PTI) A labourer has been trapped for sixdays in a tunnel that collapsed in Jhadol Tehsil in thedistrict here and rescue efforts are on to bring him out.
Narayan Singh was working in a 3.3 km long tunnel underconstruction between Dodawali and Raita in Jhadol Tehsil ofUdaipur district when it collapsed trapping him on one side,officials said.
The tunnel was part of a project to solve the drinkingwater problem in the city.
On Friday, a pipe was passed through the tunnel andcontact was established with him, they said, adding yesterdaythe District Collector Hemant Gera spoke to him through thepipe and assured that he would be rescued soon.
As part of the rescue effort, another tunnel is being dugwith the help of a special Hydraulic machine brought fromDelhi.
The Irrigation Department, which is part of the rescuemission has assured people that although the operation mighttake some more time, Narayan Singh was in no immediatedanger.
Oxygen cylinders are being used to pump in air to thevictim and food and water are also being supplied to Singhthrough the pipe and his health was constantly beingmonitored, the officials said.
