Heavy snowfall disrupts life in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jan 19 (PTI) Heavy snowfall has disrupted lifein several parts of Arunachal Pradesh, including theadministrative district of Tawang, official sources saidtoday.

Besides Tawang, other areas affected by snowfall for thepast several days include West Kameng, West Siang and LowerDibang Valley districts, the sources said.

"Around several feet of snow covered the entire Tawangtownship since yesterday, disrupting surface communication,water supply, power and telephone connectivity," Informationand Public Relations Director Leki Phuntso said.

Many tourists were stranded at Tawang and also at Dirangin West Kameng district following unpliable roads at Jung andSella Pass at an altitude of 14,000 feet due to heavysnowfall, he said.

Snowfall was also recorded in the entire stretch of theBomdila-Tawang road.

The Border Road Organisation, which has already pressedits men into service, said it would take at least two days toclear the snow from the road.

Several feet of snowfall was also recorded at Mechuka inWest Siang district during the last couple of days.

Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley district, hasalso witnessed heavy snowfall since last week, the sourcessaid.
