US Consul General Dhanani meets disabled youths in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jan 18 (PTI) US Consul General KatherineDhanani today distributed certificates after completion oftraining to disabled youth at the Centre for Persons withDisability Livelihoods (CPDL) here.

During her visit, the Council General interacted withdisabled youth trained and placed in jobs by CPDL.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhanani applauded the tenacityof the youth for not only conquering the limitations of theirdisabilities, but also battling naysayers traditions ofculture and society and most importantly overcoming their owndoubts and inhibitions.

"Any company should be proud to employ one of thesecourse graduates. From what I''ve seen, I would recommend anyone of them as an exemplary employee," she said.

CPDL was set up by Society for Elimination of RuralPoverty (SERP), rural development department, Government ofAndhra Pradesh, and Wadhwani Foundation (WF), to train andlink persons with disability to jobs. A Public PrivatePartnership (PPP), it aims to train 1,000 persons withdisabilities by March 2011.

Till date, CPDL has trained 100 youth with 40-70 per centdisability and placed them in companies as HD Finance, TataTeleservices, TBSS, KEC and Spancers among others withsalaries ranging between Rs 56,000 and Rs 1,10,000 per annum,officials said.

About 700 youth are currently training in various sectorssuch as IT, ITES, BPO, Textiles, hospitality and manufacturingin 14 training centers in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Chittoor,Nalgonda and Warangal, they said.
