Erode,Jan18 (PTI) The Erode Turmeric market todayexperienced a decrease of Rs 500 per quintal following want ofupcountry demand for the produce, trade sources said.
A total of 1100 bags of turmeric were brought at foursales centres and only 580 bags were sold.
Three hundred bags of Number 8 variety turmeric fromChennampatty, Ammapet and Gobichettipalayam fetched a maximumprice of Rs 12500 per quintal.
Three hundred bags of Mysore variety were sold at Rs 13000per quintal.Some 200 bags of unpolished new crop fetched onlyRs 7500 to Rs 8000 per quintal.
The traders said they were expecting fresh crop within nextfifteen days, when the prices will decline to Rs 10,000 to Rs11000, and did not want to purchase and stock the presentavailable turmeric.
They also said they were not receiving any fresh order fromNorth India.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard,finger variety fetched Rs 9099 to Rs 14611 per quintaland root variety Rs 7800 to Rs 14100 per quintal, tradesources said.
In the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, fingervariety was sold at Rs 14347 to Rs 14688 per quintal and Rootvariety Rs 13869 to Rs 14316 per quintal.
In the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger varietyfetched Rs 13869 to Rs 14010 per quintal and root variety Rs13469 to Rs 14161 per quintal while at the GobichettipalayamCooperative Marketing Society, not even a single turmeric bagarrived for sale today.
