Kuala Lumpur, Jan 18 (ANI): Malaysia's National Registration Department (NRD) offices will set up special counters next month under the "MyDaftar" campaign to address documentation problems involving the Indian community.

The counters will be opened between Feb 19 and Feb 26.

The campaign, organised by the Special Implementation Taskforce on the Indian Community in collaboration with Malaysia's Home Ministry, is aimed at identifying Indians who do not have relevant documents pertaining to their birth, identification and citizenship.

The ministry's deputy secretary-general Raja Azahar Raja Abdul Manap said the eight-day campaign was to identify individuals who had birth certificates but had not applied for a MyKad, and those who did not have birth certificates and therefore were unable to secure a MyKad.

"The campaign will also target children who are unable to go to school and those in residential homes run by the Social Welfare Department and voluntary organisations who do not have proper documentation," The Star quoted him, as saying.

Raja Azahar said this would be the first time the department was carrying out such a campaign in nine states.

"During the campaign, NRD offices in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor will set up special counters to process applications. (ANI)
