Indian can facilitate nuclear power growth: Kakodkar
Mumbai, Jan 17 (PTI) India can facilitate growth ofnuclear power worldwide, particularly in the developingcountries, through the use of low enriched Uranium�Thoriumfuel cycle, former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission AnilKakodkar said today.
"It has been shown that following this approach, theproliferation concerns get considerably diminished whileremaining as efficient in terms of utilisation of uranium.
More importantly this can be done with the present day reactortechnologies and thus can be readily implemented," Kakodkarsaid accepting the INS Homi Bhabha Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award, carrying a citation and a cash prize of Rs 2.5lakh was presented to Kakodkar by the Director General ofInternational Atomic Energy Agency Yykiya Amano at the 21stannual conference of the Indian Nuclear Society.
Amano also gave away awards to some of the outstandingscientists and engineers and young scientists from theDepartment of Atomic Energy (DAE) facilities.
He also presented the INS science communication award toG P Kotiyal of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and SwapneshKumarMalhotra, head, public awareness division of DAE.
