Bhubaneswar, Jan 18 (PTI) Slamming the BJD governmentin Orissa for alleged corruption and scams, the BJP todayaccused it of violating laws and neglecting the state''sinterests to favour private companies.
"Orissa is suffering under the ineffective and corruptBJD government which has failed on all fronts," BJP PresidentNitin Gadkari told reporters.
Accusing the Naveen Patnaik government of violatinglaws to show favour to private companies, Gadkari alleged thatcrores of rupees were misappropriated during the BJD rule inthe name of providing roads and drinking water in thepoverty-stricken KBK region.
The BJD government also failed in utilising centralschemes and projects due to callousness, he claimed.
Gadkari alleged that corruption in states like Orissaand Assam needed to be highlighted at the national level.
To check corruption, resources like mineralsshould be given on auction basis and e-tender introduced, hesaid.
The BJP chief said agriculture was suffering in Orissain the absence of measures to strengthen irrigation, diversifycrop pattern and prevent natural calamities like floods bybuilding a proper canal system.
Gadkari claimed that BJP would bounce back to power inthe state in the next elections.
