Madurai, Jan 17 (PTI): Four persons, including a woman,were killed in an accident on the outskirts of this city aftera car rammed into them while they were crossing the road.
Police said the victims were on their way to take part inPongal festivities at Karungalakudi near Melur when the carrammed into them.
All four died on the spot. Those in the car, including itsdriver sustained minor injuries, police said.
as news of the mishap spread, irate villagers ofKarungalakudi gathered at the spot, set the car ablaze andblocked vehicular traffic for about an hour.
They demanded that service roads be laid on both sides ofthe road at Kamboor and Singampunari road junction nearKarungalakudi along with a road overbridge as it was anaccident prone zone.
Police said they had recommended the same to theadministration and to National Highways Authority of India.
Later, three persons were arrested for allegedly settingablaze the car and cases registered against 10 persons forbeing involved in the incident
cases were also registered against 600 others for blockingroad traffic.
