BSES launches massive crackdown against power thefts
New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) Power discom BSES has launcheda massive crackdown against power thefts under which 200 raidsacross the city are being carried out in a planned manner.
A BSES official said the raids are being conductedround the clock and a total of 125 theft-prone areas have beenselected for the operation.
"BSES teams often come under attack from theunscrupulous elements, while undertaking such mass-raids. Toprotect them, most of the raiding teams are being accompaniedby Delhi Police personnel," the official said.
According to the official, 750 cases were alreadyregistered against those involved in power theft in the lastfew days.
"The enforcement drive will continue till March 31,2011."
In undertaking these raids, the discom is relyingheavily on technology.
"For the purpose, energy input data from the over6,000 distribution transformers is being collated andanalysed by a centralised team and power-theft locationsnarrowed-down significantly," he said.
"It is seen that with the unusually cold weather,there is a sharp and sudden increase in energy-theft. This atplaces leads to severe over-loading of the distribution systemresulting in trippings," the official said.
