Puducherry, Jan 16 (PTI): With elections to the territorialAssembly a few months away, the ruling Congress today embarkedon a programme to hold constituency wise meetings with partycadres to ascertain their views on strategies to be followed.
PCC leader A V Subramanian told PTI that the party had heldmeetings n 10 of the total of 30 constituencies,including hishome town of Karaikal. "This process would continue and theviews of party men would be placed before the high command,"he said.He said the meetings helped the party get a close look atthe performance of the government and also get a full pictureof the impressions of partymen.
To a question he said he had at one stage held talks withformer Chief Minister N.Rangasamy who has been distancinghimself away from party programmes in the wake of his ousterfrom the poster in August 2008 in a bid to bring him round. Hesaid he was yet to hear from Rangasamy on his action plan.
Meanwhile, supporters of Rangasamy who have emerged as adissident group have been going ahead with efforts to pressureRangasamy to convert the N R Peravai they floated into apolitical party to fight the polls and take on Congress.
The 13 member Congress government has the support of sevenDMK members members and three Independents from outside.
On the opposition side the AIADMK has three members, whilePMK has two, CPI and MDMK one each. There are also threenominated members with Congress,PMK and CPI having one each.
