Negi settles for second place at Parsvnath chess

New Delhi, Jan 16 (PTI) National champion Parimarjan Negisettled for a second place finish after top seed UkrainianGrandmaster Alexnader Areshchenko clinched the title on thebasis of better tie break score at the 8th ParsvnathInternational Chess tournament here today.

Negi, who won the national championship last month, wastied along with Areshchenko, Yuriy Kuzubov, AustrianGrandmaster Ragger Markus and Chinese Grandmaster Ni Hua withnine points each at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex here.

In the final round encounters, Negi overcame CRG Krishnawhile Markus defeated Grandmaster Hanens Stefansson of Icelandand Ni Hua beat former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta tocatch up with Areshchenko for the pole position.

Areshchenko set for a draw with fellow UkrainianGrandmaster Yuriy Kuzubov in the eleventh round but better tiebreak score helped Areshchenko to take the Winners trophy andpocketed a shared cash prize of Rs 1.51 lakh.

Kuzubov finished at the third spot, while Markus and NiHua finished fourth and fifth respectively.
