Bathinda, Jan 16 (PTI) A major fire broke out today at acotton factory at Mansa Road here, causing a loss of Rs 2.5crores, police said.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident,they said.
Though the exact cause of the fire is not knownimmediately, it seems to be caused by a short circuit, thepolice said, adding, the fire broke out at Dashmesh Textilesaround 4 pm when about 50 laborers were working inside thefactory.
The fire spread so fast due to winds and cotton thatwithin minutes it spread out to the whole factory and workersran out for safety, they said.
According to sources, though the fire brigade wasinformed immediately, owing to no driver being available atthe moment the fire tenders arrived late and that too afterintervention of the deputy commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner S Karuna Raju also reached the spotand as many as 30 fire tenders from Refinery, Thermal, NFL andCantonment were pumped in to douse the flames that could notbe completely doused till the filing of this report.
Estimates have put the loss to Rs 2.5 crores.
