Scam-tainted Tiwari to meet Maha Governor tomorrow

Mumbai, Jan 15 (PTI) A defiant Ramanand Tiwari, whocontinues to attend office despite Maharashtra governmentrecommending his suspension as Information Commissioner tillthe inquiry into Adarsh Housing scam gets over, will bemeeting Governor K Sankarnarayanan tomorrow.

"The Governor has granted appointment tomorrow toTiwari," Raj Bhavan spokesperson said.

Tiwari, a retired IAS officer will meet the Governor at 4PM, the spokesperson said.

Yesterday, Tiwari had told PTI that he continued toattend office, as he is yet to get any communication from thegovernment asking him not to report for work.

Alleging "misconduct" by Tiwari in the Adarsh HousingSociety scam, the State cabinet had on January 11 recommendedhis suspension to Governor K Sankaranarayanan.

Another retired IAS officer Subhash Lalla resigned asmember of the State Human Rights Commission last week. Thegovernment had asked Tiwari to quit the post on moral groundsbut he defiantly rejected the suggestion and instead appliedfor a three-month leave, which was turned down by theGovernor.

The cabinet recommended to the Governor to refer to theSupreme Court the matter of misconduct by Tiwari, undersection 17 of the Right to Information Act. It also suggestedthat Tiwari be suspended from the post and barred fromremaining present in office till the inquiry is on.
