Krishna stuns Ukrainian GM Areshchenko, Kuzubov share lead

New Delhi, Jan 15 (PTI) Andhra youngster CRG Krishnastunned Ukrainian Grandmaster Yaroslav Zherebukh even asnational champion Parimarjan Negi slipped to third spot aftersigning peace with Henrik Danielsen in the 10th round of theninth Parsvanth International Open Chess tournament heretoday.

Negi drew with Iceland''s Grandmaster after mandatory 30moves and has eight points in his kitty.

Ukrainian Grandmaster duo top seed Alexander Areshchenkoand Yuriy Kuzubov share the lead with eight-and-a-half pointsafter the penultimate round at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex.

Overnight sole leader Areshchenko tried hard for a winwith white pieces in English opening against SlovenianGrandmaster Lenic Luka but had to be satisfied with half pointafter a marathon match that lasted 102 moves while Kuzubov gotthe better off Indian Grandmaster S Kidambi.

But the star of the day was Krishna. Playing black sideof French Defence, he overcame his fancied Grandmaster rivalin just 34 moves.

During the match, Zherebukh complained against Krishnaabout possible usage of electronic device and Arbiter''sfrisked Krishna in presence of his rival and nothingsuspicious was found.

Later Zherebukh apologized to Krishna before signing thescore sheet in favour of his rival.

Final round of the event will be held tomorrow in themorning and followed by closing ceremony. More PTI AT
