Deities begin hunt in Tirumala- Paruveta Utsavam

Tirumala, Jan 16: The annual hunting festival of Lord Malayappa Swamy and Lord Srikrishna Swamy (Paruveta Utsavam), began on Sunday, Jan 16 in Tirumala. Thousands of devotees are gathered in Tirumal to catch the glimpse of this hunting festival or the supernal safari.

Specialty of this safari is, Lord Malayappa Swamy accompanied by Lord Sri Krishna Swamy on another palanquin would go for a pleasure hunt to Paruveta Mandapam in Tirumala.

The Lord Malayappa Swamy in the avatar of Sarvabhoopala (the mighty universal emperor), sporting five weapons including conch, disc, gadha, bow-arrow and accompanied by Sri Krishna Swamy, delights the devotees eyes.

The two deities would go on for a pleasure hunt to Parveta Mandapam the thick forests. Temple priests and officials will participate in this mock hunt as a part of the festival on the Kanuma day, the next day of Sankranthi festival.

After the divine safari and customary rituals the deities would be placed on a top of golden rath, and will be taken back to the main temple by evening.
