Bill on women's safety referred to House panel
During the last winter session in December, the 'Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment at Workplace Bill-2010' was placed before the Lok Sabha and now it has been referred to the Statnding Committee on HRD for its close look at it.
Congress MP Oscar Fernandes is heading the Committee. The Committee has invited suggestions from different stakeholder including the common man to give a perfect shape to the proposed law.
Sonia Gandhi-headed National Advisory Council (NAC) had, in the past, suggested to bring domestic workers under the proposed law to protect women at workplace from sexual harassment. Now referring the bill to the Committee is a move ahead for the proposed law.
