Winter games held up in Auli due to heavy snowfall

Auli (Uttarakhand), Jan 15 (PTI) Ski events scheduled tobe held on the second day of the ongoing first South AsianWinter Games here have been delayed due to heavy snowfalltoday.

The events are expected to start as soon as the snowstops and fog gets clear here at ski resort Auli in ChamoliDistrict.

South Asian countries -- hosts India, Pakistan,Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal are a part of the ski eventshere. Pakistan has brought a strong 27 ski-member team.

Yesterday, on the opening day of the ski events, Indiahad won two gold medals, while Pakistan bagged one in variousski competitions.

At Auli, the main competition can be seen between the twoarch-rivals -- India and Pakistan.

The events at the Auli Ski resort include Alpine skiingSlalom -- men and women Giant Slalom, men and women Nordicskiing, men''s 10 kms, 15 kms, 4x10kms relay events and women''s3 kms, 5 kms, 10 kms relay.

Snow Board events include Slalom -- men and women, GiantSlalom -- men and women.

Later today, eminent sufi singer Kailash Kher is supposeto perform at Joshimath but whether it would take placedepends on the weather condition here.

The authorities are trying to clear the road to Auli fromJoshimath, which is blocked due to heavy snowfall.
