London, Jan 14 (AP) The chances of David Beckham joiningTottenham on loan appeared remote on Friday after Spursmanager Harry Redknapp said the midfielder wouldn''t be fit toplay a Premier League match until the end of January.
Beckham began this week a monthlong training stint withSpurs, who have been in negotiations with the Los AngelesGalaxy about signing the ex-England captain on loan untilMarch.
However, Redknapp said Beckham is still two weeks awayfrom full fitness and suggested it may not be worth adding himto the squad for such a short spell.
"It''s only two months and before you know it, a monthwill have gone and then it would be only a couple of weeks. Soit''s a difficult one really," Redknapp said.
Beckham had his first day of training on Tuesday and hispresence at Spurs'' training ground in northeast London hasgenerated a huge amount of media and fan interest.
Redknapp said there has been "nothing flashy" about the35-year-old Beckham but acknowledged his fitness levelsweren''t up to the required standard to play in England''s topdivision.
"David is a fitness fanatic but getting fit to playPremier League football is very different to just goingtraining on your own and keeping your fitness up," Redknappsaid. "He would be the first to admit that in his first weekin training he has felt tired, and it''s going to be a coupleof weeks before he is fit enough to play."
Spurs initially expressed their interest in Beckham atthe start January, raising the prospect of the midfielderplaying for Tottenham against his former club ManchesterUnited in the Premier League on Sunday.
Redknapp said he''d never considered that possibility.
"I never felt he''d be fit enough to play this week," saidRedknapp, who has been delighted with the impact Beckham hashad on the squad. "It has been good having him here. Everyonerespects him, likes him. He just comes in and just gets onwith it. He''s a great role model for any footballer."
Beckham has been hoping that playing in the PremierLeague would boost his chances of being recalled to theEngland squad, having made 115 appearances -- the most by anEngland outfield player.
The Galaxy, however, is reluctant to allow its player togo to Europe for a third consecutive Major League Socceroffseason.
During a stint at AC Milan last season, Beckham damagedhis Achilles'' tendon and was sidelined for six months.
