London, Jan 15 (ANI): A polo player has been sent to jail for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl after showering her with text messages and complimenting her on social networking websites.
Giles Cross, also a successful businessman, was jailed for four years after he was convicted of a series of child sex offences relating to the schoolgirl, whom he "groomed" over the course of several months after meeting her at stables in Cheshire, reports the Telegraph.
At one stage he sent her 199 text messages in three days, in which he called her 'Belle' and she called him 'Beau,' heard the court.
Examples of his messages included: "You're my girlfriend, my best friend, my lover"; "The only place I am happy being is inside your head"; and "I want to wake up next to you every morning".
After developing a comfortable relationship with the girl, the 45-year-old took her to the office of his website and graphic design business, Ink-n-Paper, in the village of Taporley, where the sexual activity took place.
Now 17, the girl told police: "I trusted him, I thought I loved him. We kept it a secret from everyone."
After Cross's arrest, officers found evidence of hundreds of internet conversations and thousands of screen shots of the girl on his computer.
Judge told him he would be placed on the sex offenders register and be subject to a sexual offences prevention order for 10 years.
Det Con Gemma Bradbury, of Cheshire Police, said, "Giles Cross is a predatory paedophile who maintained a facade of respectability, boasting to all who knew him of his lifestyle and successful business. In reality, he manipulated his young vulnerable victim into engaging in sexual activity, using all means available to him.
"He abused social networking sites, bombarded his victim with text messages and generally infiltrated her life to exploit her for his own sexual gratification." (ANI)
