Rourkela (Orissa), Jan 15 (PTI) Inspector In-Charge(IIC) of Chandiposh police station in Sundargarh district,Rajendra Munda, was today caught red-handed by vigilancesleuths when allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from atruck owner.
The DSP, vigilance, Sundargarh, R K Kanungo said Mundawas arrested and the bribe amount has been seized from hispossession.
Munda had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs one lakhfrom a Sundargarh-based truck owner Md Naushad Alam forregistering a case in connection with the theft of his tippertruck which was stolen on Tuesday from Chandiposh area. Alamhas agreed to pay the bribe amount in two equal instalments.After receiving complaint from Alam, the Vigilancewing laid a trap and seized the bribe of Rs 50,000 from Mundawhile accepting the amount near SBI at Vedvyas here.
Munda was produced before a vigilance court atSambalpur, DSP said.
In another case, the vigilance sleuths arrested aclerk of the office of Executive Engineer, WESCO, Rajgangpurwhile allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a retiredemployee there.
The clerk Ganesh Chandra Jena had allegedly demandedRs 30,000 to Dhurua Lakra, a retired employee, for processinghis pension papers.
However, Lakra expressed his inability to pay theamount and finally it was settled for Rs 20,000 to process thepapers.
He was arrested today while accepting the bribe amountof Rs 20,000 from Lakra at his official quarter in Wescocolony at Rajgangpur, vigilance sources said.
They seized the bribe amount and Jena would beproduced before a vigilance court at Sambalpur tomorrow, theysaid.
