Maharashtra MLA slaps clerk for demanding bribe
Mumbai, Jan 14 (PTI) A Maharashtra legislator todayallegedly assaulted a government employee at the secretariathere, triggering a protest by the staff, police said.
An FIR was registered against Bacchu Kadu, IndependentMLA from Achalpur in Amravati district, who slappedChandrawadan Hagavane (35), a clerk at the Health Department,for allegedly asked for a bribe to complete some pending work,police said.
He was booked under IPC Sections 332 (voluntarilycausing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353(assault or criminal force to deter public servant fromdischarge of his duty) and efforts are on to trace him, said ZM Gharad, Senior Inspector at Marine Drive Police Station.
Irate employees later staged a noisy protest at thesecretariat and declared that they will stop cooperating withthe lawmaker for works related to his constituency in thebackward Vidarbha region.
The clerk was taken to government-run G T hospitalwhere he was given first aid on his jaw, Gharad said.
