JK govt grants 188 acres land to Central University Kashmir

Jammu, Jan 15 (PTI) To speed up the work for settingup of Central University Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir governmenthas granted 188 acres of land to the varsity in Ganderbaldistrict of the Kashmir Valley.

The state cabinet under the chairmanship of ChiefMinister Omar Abdullah yesterday approved transfer of stateland measuring 1501 kanals and 05 marlas (188 acres) of landsituated in villages Kurhama, Tulmulla and Zarigund ofdistrict Ganderbal in favour of Jammu and Kashmir HigherEducation Department for construction and establishment ofCentral University Kashmir.

Ganderbal is the Assembly constituency of the ChiefMinister Omar Abdullah.

"Now that the state government has granted us theland, the work for construction would start and structuraldesigns and drawings will be prepared," officials of theUniversity said.

Two Central universities were granted to Kashmirand Jammu regions by the Central government. While CentralUniversity Kashmir started its operation last year, CentralUniversity Jammu is yet to start its work as President ofIndia has recently approved the name of Prof Amitabh Mattoo asits new Vice Chancellor.

Prof Mattoo, who is Head of Department at StrategicStudies and School of Asian Studies, has also worked asVice Chancellor of Jammu University.
