Undertrial escapes from court premises

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Jan 13 (PTI) An undertrial escapedfrom police custody at the District Courts complex while hewas being taken for a hearing today, police said.

Harmanpreet Singh, who was arrested on June 1 last year,requested a police constable to allow him to go to toilet whenhe was being taken to an abandoned site of the complex, SPRandhir Singh Uppal said here.

It was that there the undertrial escaped with some of hisassociates who were already present there with a jeep, hesaid, adding that cases under various sections of the IPC werepending against Harmanpreet.

The constable has been suspended and a manhunt launchedto arrest the undertrial and his accomplices, SSP RakeshAggarwal said.
