Chennai, Jan 14 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Government today said itwould take up issue of removing sugar from futures tradingwith the Centre, in order to keep its price under check.
A decision in this regard was taken at a review meetingchaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the price situationand attended by his Deputy M K Stalin, Finance Minister KAnbazhagan and Food Minister E V Velu and top officials.
"Sugar, which was previously removed from futurestrading, has been been re-introduced in it by the Centre.
Tamil Nadu Government will write to Finance Minister PranabMukherjee requesting that sugar be excluded from futurestrading," a government release here said.
It has also been decided to add 25 farmers'' market (wherevegetables procured directly from farmers are sold) to theexisting 152 across the state, the release said.
Steps would be taken to open vegetable sale counters incorporation limits where vegetables procured directly fromproduction centres will be sold to consumers.
PDS shops will hold adequate stocks of pulses and otherprovision items to be distributed to card holders.
The release said that prices of vegetables excluding potatowere on the upper side, and this was due to the recent floodsbut added prices of vegetables were expected to come down in aweek or two following increase in supply.
