Mumbai rally beat Guru Nanak in Inter-University hockey

Mumbai, Jan 13 (PTI) University of Mumbai fought back inthe second half to overcome Guru Nanak Dev, Amritsar 3-2 in amain draw league match of the INK Infrastructure All IndiaInter-University men''s hockey tournament here today.

In another closely contested encounter, S R M University,Tamil Nadu got the better of Punjab University, Chandigarh4-3.

Mumbai got off to a positive start when Nitin Kumar foundthe mark in the fifth minute. But the Amritsar lads came backstrongly to restore parity through Prabhdeep Singh in the 19thminute as the two teams were locked at 1-1 at half time.

After switching ends, the visitors from Amritsar forgedahead 2-1 when Manjinder Singh scored a field goal in the 40thminute. But Mumbai hit back with two quick strikes to pocketthe match.

Dharmendra Antil sounded the boards in the 55th minutebefore Siddharth Pandey converted a penalty corner in the verynext minute to seal Mumbai''s victory.

In the SRM-Punjab tie, P Dhamu slammed home three goalswhile G Kantha Guru got the fourth for the winners. Jagmeet,Mukul and Gurdeep scored a goal each for Punjab.

Deepak Yadav struck two goals to power M G KashiUniversity, Varanasi to a 6-0 win against University ofRajasthan in the concluding league match.

Chandan Singh, Neeraj Yadav, Mirza Md Ather and AbhishekSingh scored the other goals.

University of Annamalai, Tamil Nadu blanked SambalpurUniversity, Orissa 3-0 with Iyappan M netting a brace andManikandan A adding to the tally.
