Mumbai, Jan 13 (PTI) Maharashtra Government is mullingover framing a separate policy for making energy auditmandatory for commercial structures as well as government andsemi-government buildings to ensure energy conservation, aGovernment official said.
"With a view to reduce consumption of power and checkits misuse, the Government is contemplating to frame aseparate policy for making energy audit mandatory forcommercial as well as government buildings," the official saidon the sidelines of an event here today.
Few industries have been carrying out energy audit, but have not taken initiatives to conserve power or userenewable energy, he said.
"The industrial sector has been carrying out energyaudits. But the problem is that after the audit is done, nosteps are taken with regards to energy conservation or useof renewable energy. The policy would ensure effectiveimplementation of energy conservation measures," the officialsaid.
Initially the Government would be making it mandatoryfor commercial structures to carry out energy audits followedby government buildings, he said.
