Govt should admit failure in tackling price rise: BJP

New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) BJP today alleged that"economist" Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had failed tocontrol price rise and suggested that instead of tom-tommingGDP growth and "hoodwinking" people, the government shouldadmit its failure on this issue.

"Food inflation is hitting the highest ever level incontemporary times while overall inflation is crossing 9 percent. The Prime Minister and his government seems to be tom-tomming the GDP growth calling it as good. What good is such agrowth which keeps away the common man from his dailyrations?" BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy asked.

Charging that the UPA government was "completelyclueless" about how to control price rise, he said, "Theeconomist prime minister has proved a disaster."

The principal opposition termed as an "eyewash" theactions taken by the government to check prices.

"The fact remains that the government and the PMO areunaware of the ground realities. ''Closely monitoring'' thesituation is not the answer. Action on the ground andsincerity in delivering could have been an answer but precioustime has already been lost," Rudy said.

He claimed that in a recent Cabinet meeting AgricultureMinister Sharad Pawar told the Prime Minister that CommerceMinister Anand Sharma''s actions have been totally opposite towhat was intended.

"The state of the left arm not knowing the right arm''sactions under the nose of the learned PM is proving costly forthe nation and the public. Its time the PM stops hoodwinkingand admits his failure to the nation," Rudy said.
