Islamabad, Jan 14: Pakistan is going through the worst period of violence and sporadic incidents that has made life in the country unpredictable and immensely risky. Recently, the country saw the death of Salman Taseer, Punjab Governor by assailants who shot him for his views on Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

Thursday, Jan 13 saw yet another death of a Geo News reporter, Wali Khan Babar who was shot dead by unidentified attackers. He was gunned down while on his way back from work. He was shot in the Liaquatabad area of the city.

Representatives of the Geo News Channel suspected the incident to be a case of target killing that has claimed the lives of eight people so far since Wednesday. A senior police official who was looking into the case said, "We are looking into the motive behind the killing and it is premature to say if this was also a target killing."

Police have already arrested 12 people in this connection on Thursday from the Pehlwan Goth area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The arrests were made following a search operation after violence erupted between supporters of the Mutthaida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP). Both parties are part of the coalition of the ruling Pakistan People's Party.
