CWG ex-official T S Darbari granted bail by high court
New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) The Delhi High Court todaygranted bail to former CWG Organising Committee official T SDarbari, who was arrested for his alleged role in the Queen''sBaton relay scam.
Justice Hima Kohli allowed the bail plea of Darbari, aclose aide of CWG Organising Committee chairman SureshKalmadi, saying the CBI has failed to complete its probe andfile the chargesheet against him within the stipulated 60days.
During the hearing, Darbari''s counsel contended thathis client is eligible to be released on bail as the CBI hasfailed to complete its probe within the prescribed time limitand his client cannot be kept behind bars indefinitely.
The court is slated to hear later during the day thebail plea of another former CWG OC official M Jayachandran,who too has been arrested for his alleged role in the samecase.
Earlier, a Delhi court had rejected the duo''s bailpleas, saying the corruption in awarding the contracts in theCWG has tarnished the image of the country.
Darbari and Jayachandran were arrested by the CBI onNovember 15 and 21 last year respectively.
They are facing charges of causing losses to theexchequer in award of contract to the tune of Rs 1.55 crorewith regard to QBR on October 29, 2009 in London beforethe mega event.
The case against them has been registered underdifferent Sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
