''Chandni Chowk be redeveloped, all traders given licence''
New Delhi, Jan 13 (PTI) The heritage area of Chandni Chowkin Delhi should be redeveloped and licences issued to alltraders there to increase the revenue of MCD.
The area municipal councillor, Suman Kumar Gupta of rulingBJP, made this demand today while taking part in a debate onthe MCD budget proposals for 2011-12.
The budget was unveiled by Municipal Commissioner K Mehraat a meeting of MCD Standing Committee in December.
Gupta said the issuance of trade licences to all traderswill ensure more revenue for MCD and less corruption.
He noted that when the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 wasbrought into force in February 2007, a period of three yearswas kept for making a redevelopment plan for designated"special areas" like Chandni Chowk.
"It was later extended by one more year but no work hasbeen done in this regard so far," Gupta said.
He said while giving trade licences, it should be madeclear that the conditions for the same will be in accordancewith the situation after the redevelopment work.
Several other councillors also took part in the debateheld at a meeting of the Standing Committee.
