800 pre-independence silver coins recovered
Chennai,Jan13 (PTI) A total of 800 pre-Independence silvercoins were recovered from a toilet dustbin at theinternational airport terminal here,customs officials saidtoday.
Following a tip-off, Air Intelligence Unit officialsyesterday found the silver coins of one rupee denominationwrapped and kept in a polythene bag in the toilet dustbin,Customs Commissioner R Periasami said.
The coins were verified by an expert who confirmed thatthey belonged to pre-independence era and were valued at Rs4.37 lakh, he said in a statement here.
Besides the coins, memory cards worth Rs 34.02 lakh werealso recovered.
