Two policemen killed in Pak blast

Peshawar, Jan 13 (PTI) Militants targeted a police vanwith a roadside bomb in northwest Pakistan''s restive Bannuregion today, killing at least two security personnel andinjuring five others, a day after a suicide attack on a policestation in the same area claimed 20 lives.

The police van was attacked with the remote-controlledbomb at Sardi Khel town in Bannu district ofKhyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said.

The area borders North Waziristan tribal region,considered a hub of Taliban and al-Qaeda operatives.

The attack left two policemen dead and five more injured,the officials said. The injured were taken to a hospital inBannu city.

Security forces launched a massive crackdown againstmilitants following the attack.

Officials said police had seized two bags containingexplosives at Miryan Road in Bannu district and defused them.

A suicide attacker had yesterday rammed anexplosives-laden vehicle into Miryan police station, killing20 people, a majority of them security personnel, and injuringover 15 others.

Several persons praying at a mosque near the policestation were among the dead.

The funeral of the 20 people killed in the suicide attackwas held today amidst touching scenes.
