Dogs maul infant to death

Bangalore, Jan 12 (PTI) An 18-month-old boy was mauledto death by a pack of dogs at Bagalur here today, sendingshock waves among people and triggering demands foreradicating the menace of canines on streets.

The shocking incident occurred when Prashant, son oflabourers of a brick kiln, was sleeping inside a temporaryshed while his parents were working at the kiln.

The dogs dragged the infant out of the shed and mauledhim to death, police said.

The cries of the child went unheard as there was loudmusic being played in the area. Moreover, the couple hadreported to work allegedly drunk.

The body of the mutilated baby was found nearby.

Prashant was the seventh child of the worker Sukhdevhailing from Orissa. The couple had a boy after the birth ofsix girls, the eldest of whom was 23-year-old, police said.

The locals demanded that the authorities takeimmediate action to curb the menace of street dogs.
