Copra spurts on better demand, low supply

Mumbai, Jan 13 (PTI) Copra prices spurted at the spicesmarket here today due to increased demand from stockists andtraders as well as firm export offtake amidst restrictedarrivals from key growing regions.

Copra Rajapur Mumbai and copra office Alapuzha both wentup by Rs 100 per quintal each to Rs 8,100 and Rs 6,450 fromovernight closing level of Rs 8,000 and Rs 6,350.

Copra edible Mumbai and copra office Kozhikode also roseby Rs 50 per quintal each to Rs 7,550 and Rs 6,250respectively, as against Rs 7,500 and Rs 6,200 yesterday.

However, black pepper and ginger prices continued totrade steable in the absence of necessary buying support.

Following are today''s closing rates in Rs, with theprevious rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 235/249 (235/249), ginger bleached(per kg) 230 (230), ginger unbleached (per kg) 245 (245),copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 6,450 (6,350), copraoffice Kozhikode (per quintal) 6,250 (6,200), copra RajapurMumbai (per quintal) 8,100 (8,000) and copra edible Mumbai(per quintal) 7,550 (7,500).
