Chandigarh, Jan 12 (PTI) Punjab government is planningto bring major reforms in the transport department under whichall district transport offices will be computerised anddealers will be authorised to issue registration certificate(RC) of the vehicle.
Some colleges will also be authorised to issue learner''sdriving license, Transport minister Master Mohan Lal said heretoday, adding the reforms will bring more efficiency andtransparency to the department.
Giving details about the proposed reforms, stateTransport secretary SK Sandhu that dealers would be authorisedto issue RCs for non-transport vehicles on their first sale.
He said 71 polytechnic colleges and 20 ''Suvidha'' centresin the state would be granted permission to issue learner''slicences to the students.
The minister said that the state-owned transportundertaking had been awarded by the Centre for lowestaccidental rate in the country recently.
