Fund allocation for Karaikal-Parelam BG line soon: Minister

Karaikal, Jan 11 (PTI): Union Minister of State forPlanning V Narayanaswamy has said the railway ministry wouldsoon allocate funds for the project to lay a Broad Gauge linebetween Karaikal and Peralam.

"We had sought the Union Government''s approval for theproposed Karaikal-Peralam BG line project. The Government hasgiven its approval. The Railway Ministry will allocate fundsfor the project and works will commence thereafter," he said.

On the Thirumalairajanar bridge at TR Pattinam in Karaikal,which was damaged on Jan 1, Narayanaswamy said repair work wasgoing on in full swing and would be completed in about 20days. He further said that sanction for constructing a newbridge at a cost of Rs 10.5 crore would be obtained soon.

The minister also said work on laying a BG line betweenNagore and Karaikal was nearing completion.
