DRI seize premium watches from AI plane toilet
Mumbai, Jan 12 (PTI) The Directorate of RevenueIntelligence has seized a consignment of 26 premium Swisswatches and drugs from the toilet of an Air India flight fromAbu Dhabi at the Chattrapati Shivaji international airport.
The Franck Muller watches and drugs, concealed in aniche in the toilet of the Air India Airbus, were seized onMonday night, a DRI official said today.
"There were in all 26 watches of which 16 were diamondstudded, while packets of an anti-cancer drug and steroidswere also found," he said.
While the value of each diamond studded watch is saidto be over Rs 10 lakh, the drugs were valued at about Rs 70lakh.
"We are still in the process of identifying thesuspects," he said, adding DRI officials were working oncertain specific leads.
The search was conducted after all passengers haddisembarked, he said and declined to divulge whether DRI hadbeen tipped off about the presence of the consignment.
Involvement of maintenance staff could not be ruledout, he said.
