Court sets Jan 15 for ruling on plea for case against Azam

Badaun (UP), Jan 11 (PTI) Samajwadi Party leader AzamKhan may be in fresh trouble over his controversial statementon Kashmir last month with the Bajrang Dal moving a court hereseeking registration of a case against him.

District convenor of Bajrang Dal Ujjawal Gupta, whoearlier demanded filing of a case of sedition against Khan inthe Sadar Kotwali police station, had moved an applicationbefore the Chief Judicial Magistrate''s court here forregistration of a case.

The CJM had asked the police to inform the court byJanuary 11 whether any case has been filed against Khan forhis statement and on receiving the police reply today thecourt set January 15 as the next date for giving its order.

Khan, who rejoined the Samajwadi Party recently, had onDecember 21 had stoked a controversy while commenting on thenumber of Muslim ministers in the Union Cabinet.

"Only one Muslim minister (Ghulam Nabi Azad) is there inthe (Union) Cabinet and that too not of India, but fromKashmir. That Kashmir, which is still controversial and wedon''t know whether that is part of India or not...," Khan hadsaid.
