11 bike thieves held in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 11 (PTI) Eleven young vehicle thieves werearrested in the capital in separate cases, including murder ofa sales tax official, and ten vehicles were seized from them,police said today.

One gang was inspired by Bollywood to enter the world ofcrime, a senior police official said. Another gang used tosteal vehicles and sell them using the registration papers ofthe vehicles which they had owned.

In one of the incidents, four youths were arrested fromMehrauli-Badarpur Road four days ago during a vehiclechecking. The arrested have been identified as Jagdish Meena(20), Subhash Kumar (25), Banwari Lal Meena (26) and Khalil(25).

Two cars and two motorcycles were recovered from them.

"The gang was also involved in the murder of a sales taxofficer, an abduction and rape case and three cases of highwayrobbery in Rajasthan and two cases of vehicle theft in Delhiand one in Harayna," the official said.

He said the thieves used to steal a vehicle of the samemodel that they had owned. They would obtain duplicateregistration papers of their vehicle and then sell thevehicle," the official said.

Three youths were arrested in Mayapuri yesterday and astolen car was recovered from them. The gang is headed byRakesh (20), a taxi driver who was apprehended along withJoginder Singh (22) and K Deep Singh (23).

"Rakesh told investigators that he took a cue from someHindi movies and discussed a plan with Joginder. He decided todo some other work and started working as driver.

"With this also he could not fulfil his plans to becomerich instantly and planned to something else with hisfriends," he said.

The third case was reported from Dwarka where four youths-- Lalit (22), Sunil (19), Yashwinder (21) and Jagir Singh(26) were arrested. Seven motorcycles have been recovered fromthem.
