Biman Bose appeals for peace after Lalgarh violence

Siliguri, Jan 11 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State Secretary Biman Bose expressing his concern over the recent political violence in West Bengal, on Tuesday appealed for peace and harmony.

"The question is about peace or violence, and keeping in mind both the aspects we need to decide whether we should invite disharmony or work towards achieving peace and prosperity," said Bose.

"So our CPI-M party and the Left Front Government of West Bengal have decided that we want to establish peace and harmony, and therefore won't indulge or be a part of any sort activity that could lead to violence," he added.

Earlier on Friday, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram sent a letter to State Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee asking him to reschedule all appointments and visit New Delhi immediately.

Six villagers, including a woman were killed and over 20 injured in firing by suspected armed CPI-M cadres in Lalgarh in West Bengal"s West Midnapore District on Friday.

The villagers, who had gathered to protest against demands made by Marxist armed cadre that they volunteer for night patrols and arms training, were fired at from a house at Netai village in Belatikri gram panchayat in Lalgarh police station area. (ANI)
