Jodhpur, Jan 10 (ANI): Scores of visitors thronged the annual rose festival that was held recently in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city with the objective of encouraging floriculture.

Around 25 varieties of roses were put on display at the festival that was held on Sunday.

"The main aim is to encourage floriculture in the whole Marwar region. We want our farmers to grow flowers, as they play a very important role in the market, and then flowers are also being imported," said Amar Khatri, an organiser.

"There are almost 20 to 25 variety of roses on display. We have almost 240 entries of roses. These roses are cut or grafted around October 15 and then they bud within 45 days. This is the peak season for roses. The main aim to organise this festival is to encourage people to grow roses and also other flowers," added Sushil Singh, another organiser.

Visitors here were elated to see so many different varieties of roses.

"I am feeling very happy to see so many different kinds of flowers at one place. In fact, such shows should be organised not only once in the year, but all round the year to make people aware about environment," said Jaishree Singhal, a spectator.

During the festival, prizes were awarded to rose-growers in different categories, and new varieties of roses were also introduced. (ANI)
