New Delhi, Jan 9 (ANI): Talking to a 240-member delegation led by Malaysia's special envoy for infrastructure Samy Vellu in Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in New Delhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that he feels very proud when leaders of other countries praise and appreciate the role of Indian communities in their nation-building efforts.

He also expressed nostalgia about his visit to Kuala Lumpur last October when he inaugurated the "Little India" district in Brickfields along with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

"It was a very emotional experience for me as it was a symbolic acknowledgement of the contributions that have been made by many other 'little Indias' to local communities across the world," The Star quoted Singh, as saying on Saturday.

Vellu is leading a 240-member delegation comprising politicians, businessmen, non-governmental organisations and media to the Pravasi, an annual meeting of People of Indian Origin (PIO).

Referring to the PBD as an ideal platform for some 25 million Indians living around the world to be united, Singh said: "It is a new bond based on our pride in the achievements of people of Indian origin worldwide and their pride in India's re-emergence as a cradle of creativity and enterprise."
