Sibal launches new MHRD web page dedicated to NRIs, PIOs

New Delhi, Jan 6 (ANI): Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday launched a new web page in the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) website dedicated to Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs).

The Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) 2011 is being held here from Friday to Sunday.The focus of this year's PBD is on education and health.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Human Resource Development also brought out a booklet titled 'GYANDEEP-Building a knowledge Society', besides a special edition of the MHRD News letter.

The booklet aims at giving an overview of the various proposals initiated by the Ministry for bringing in reforms in the higher education sector.

It also mentions some of the existing programmes and schemes of the University Grants Commission (UGC) /All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) /Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR)/ Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) as well as the Department of Science and Technology for enhancing faculty resources/ utilizing the expertise of eminent academicians for research which can of interest to NRIs/PIOs.

The new page in the MHRD website will give information about the opportunities available in India for faculty positions.

It also provides for registration by interested persons, thus enabling creation of a data bank of NRIs /PIOs so as to utilise their talent and expertise in the creation of a knowledge society.

The special edition of the MHRD newsletter, besides giving a round -up of the major initiatives in higher education for the benefit of NRIs/PIOs, also contains a brief on some international collaborations. (ANI)
