BJP chief Nitin Gadkari lays stress on accountability in party work

New Delhi, Jan 4 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Gadkari has urged state party presidents to bring in more accountability and transparency in their dealings, during a teleconference with ten state units.

'There should be evaluation of the work done. State presidents should give an account of the work done,' Gadkari said, adding that he too will give an account of his work as party president in the last year.

Speaking at the first video conference meeting with state units, Gadkari said it was a step towards improving communication and coordination between party workers and office-bearers at various levels.

He sought details from state units about membership figures and preparations of party's campaign against corruption.

"There should be more accountability and transparency in our work. We are a political party; there should be evaluation of the work done. All state presidents should give an account of the work done at the end of the year. And whoever has been given party responsibility, they should all give an account both in written and verbal. An entire account of works testimony should be asked from the party workers," said Gadkari.

Claiming that the BJP has always supported modern technologies, Gadkari said that interactions with different state units will not be hindered by distance any more.

"The effort is on to link the ten state units with the central office in Delhi. BJP has always supported technological advancement; we are against westernisation but support modernisation. And by using the new advanced information technology we can arrange meeting with state units from all across the country from time to time," he added.

Gadkari further said that the party intends to expand the initiative all across the country.

"Gradually, we will be trying that from across the country, all headquarters of BJP- parliamentary or district will be connected to each other," said Gadkari.

The first phase of high-speed internet connectivity project has been implemented in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The second phase is being said will cover Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Rajasthan, Punjab and some other states. (ANI)
